Rowan stared out across the wasteland, his brown, jaw length hair still, in the strangely motionless air. The world was dead. Everything he had known was gone. Not strictly true he thought, for the desolation still remained. Just this was worse than before. Before there may have been poverty at every corner, children and adults alike all starving, houses no more than ramshackle shanties, but at least there had been something. And it had been home.
